Bisping’s manager says fight with Nick Diaz would be ‘fun’, but wants title shot

Michael Bisping’s manager says the Brit is is excited at the prospect of a Nick Diaz fight but would prefer to fight the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold instead.

Following Michael Bisping’s hard-fought win over Anderson Silva at UFC Fight Night 84, Stockton bad boy Nick Diaz poked fun at the Brit on social media.

Bisping, who earned a unanimous decision victory, was dropped with a flying knee at the end of the third round but was saved by the bell. Silva proceeded to celebrate as if he’d won, despite several officials telling him the fight wasn’t over. “The Count” recovered from the near-KO and persevered in the final rounds.

Nick Diaz fought and lost to “The Spider” in a bout that was marred with controversy at UFC 183. One of Diaz’ drug tests came back positive for marijuana metabolites and Anderson Silva tested positive for steroids. Silva’s win was subsequently overturned to a No Contest and the Brazilian was suspended for one-year; Diaz received an 18-month suspension and could return to the Octagon in August.

Bisping fired back on Twitter and was open to a fight with the Californian.

@nickdiaz209 when your finished with your SUSPENSION, lets do this.i got dropped, but I won the fight. Don’t be jealous, it’s not a good look

Bisping’s manager Audie Attar, however, said the 37-year-old is more interested in fighting the winner of Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman for the middleweight title.

“Nick Diaz is definitely calling him out and that sounds enticing and I think that would be an amazing matchup,” Attar told MMA Fighting. “But for Mike and what he’s done in the sport, he’s earned the right to say, ‘I want the winner of Rockhold and Weidman.’ I think that’s what he’s doing.”

“He hears Nick Diaz,” Attar said. “He thinks that would be a fun, exciting fight. The fans would like to see that, but it’s his time now. I think for Mike right now, he wants a title shot. He’s earned that in his career.”

Despite racking up 25 fights in the UFC and competing in the organisation for 10 years, the MMA veteran still hasn’t fought for promotional gold. However, with his win over Silva in London — his third straight — Bisping elevated to #4 in the official middleweight rankings and is likely fulfil his championship dream.

Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman is expected to headline the UFC 199 PPV at the The Forum arena in Inglewood, California on June 4th.
