Jan Blachowicz’ heart might have come into question after some fans feel the Polish knockout artist was too quick to tap in his submission defeat to Glover Teixeira in their rather anticlimactic light heavyweight title bout at UFC 267.

Blachowicz, 38, acknowledges that it wasn’t his best performance inside the octagon on Saturday but is adamant that he didn’t quit against Teixeira after succumbing to a rear-naked choke in the second round.

“My performance today was horrible,” Blachowicz said at the UFC 267 post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “I don’t know. I wasn’t champion today, he was. He is. I don’t know, I need time to think about it, but for sure something was bad.

“It wasn’t me,” he added. “I don’t want to explain myself, he beat me, everybody see that. It’s not over, I’m not a quitter, I will not go anywhere, I will come back here for sure. I need to rest for sure, think a little bit, and for sure I will come back. I’m not a quitter, I’m not a coward, I will not quit. You’re gonna see me in the Octagon again.”

Blachowicz definitely looked ‘off’ from the opening bell, but 42-year-old Teixeira — who is now the new king of the light heavyweight division — proved himself to be superior in virtually every aspect of mixed martial arts on fight night.

Blachowicz is currently #7 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings and, prior to his title loss at UFC 267, was on a five-fight winning streak with standout victories against Luke Rockhold, Dominick Reyes, and Israel Adesanya.
