“Any professional athlete but especially a pro fighter needs to take responsibility for their training, this pandemic hasn’t forced me to miss one workout.”
Curtis Blaydes has slammed Stipe Miocic after the reigning UFC heavyweight champion claimed that he’s currently unable to train as a result of the stay-at-home order enforced by Ohio. Gov Mike DeWine.
Miocic, 37, says he won’t be able to rematch Daniel Cormier until his gym reopens, but Blaydes believes the part-time firefighter is looking for an excuse to get out of the matchup.
Blaydes, like many other fighters, is still training every day during the coronavirus pandemic and the No. 3-ranked heavyweight contender says Miocic is ‘tripping’ if he thinks he can’t do the same.

“Any professional athlete but especially a pro fighter needs to take responsibility for their training, this pandemic hasn’t forced me to miss one workout. Stipe is tripping if he thinks ppl believe he can’t train cause his coach can’t open the gym up,” Blaydes posted on Friday.
If Miocic refuses to fight, UFC president Dana White has hinted that the two-time champ may be stripped of his heavyweight title. Miocic, however, claims that he ‘can’t control a global pandemic’ and will return to training as soon as the stay-at-home order is lifted. Ohio gyms are expected to re-open on May 26th.
Blaydes, 29, is on a three-fight win streak and last fought in January, when he TKO’d former heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos in the UFC Fight Night 166 main event.
