It’s been a rough couple of years for Ray Borg, whose son continues to deal with an extremely serious series of medical conditions. Those problems have led to a number of fight cancellations for the UFC flyweight, the latest being his UFC on ESPN 10 fight against Merab Dvalishvili on Saturday night.
That pull out occurred on June 11th and many were worried about the health of little Anthony Borg. Now Ray has updated us on his child’s condition and it’s good news.

“Thank you all so much for the overwhelming love and support,” Borg wrote on Twitter. “As you all know I pulled from my fight to be with my son. With his condition being life long he is at risk for surgery everyday. Although there were some worries about his shunt failing due to some malfunction symptoms I am happy to let everyone know that he is at home doing well and will not need any surgery.”
“Thank you everyone who had reached out we love you all.”
The UFC has been extremely understanding of the Borg family situation and have been lining up fights for “The Tazmexican Devil.” Saturday’s bout against Dvalishvili would have been his third bout of 2020. Since getting back to action in 2019 Borg is 2-2.
After Borg was forced to step back, Combat Americas champ Gustavo Lopez was tapped to step in. Dvalishvili won their bout in convincing fashion, pulling in 30–26, 30–26, and 30–25 scores from the judges.
