The welterweight headliner between undefeated prospect Khamzat Chimaev and top contender Leon Edwards has been scrapped, yet again, after “Borz” was forced to withdraw from their midweek matchup.
That’s according to Front Kick, though we don’t yet know what the promotion plans to do with “Rocky,” who was recently sidelined with COVID-19 and tossed from their December showdown in Las Vegas.
Both Neil Magny and Michael Chiesa are available to fill in though I would think Edwards could probably use the extra time off considering the severity of his recent illness. Either way, the Jan. 20 fight card in Abu Dhabi is currently in the shop for repairs.
Chimaev (9-0) was hoping to capitalize on his knockout win over Gerald Meerschaert last September in “Sin City.” Edwards (18-3), meanwhile, has not competed since capturing a unanimous decision nod over Raphael dos Anjos back in summer 2019.
Stay tuned for more updates on this still-developing story.
