After losing twice on The Ultimate Fighter 17, cast member Bubba McDaniel was still given a chance to fight in the UFC, and clinched a job by defeating Gilbert Smith. He gets his next test in August, when he faces veteran Brad Tavares at the second installment of UFC on FOX Sports 1.
The UFC confirmed the matchup, which will take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
McDaniel, who is 21-6, defeated Gilbert Smith via submission in April, notching his first official UFC victory.
Tavares has won three straight, with decisions over Riki Fukuda, Tom Watson and Dongi Yang. The streak has pushed his record to 10-1.
The promotion also confirmed a welterweight matchup between James Head and Bobby Voelker for the same night.
Head (9-3) is coming off a TKO loss to Mike Pyle last December. He had been scheduled to fight Nick Catone at UFC 159 in April, but on the day of the event, Catone was pulled from the card due to dehydration, leaving Head opponent-less.
Voelker (24-9) made his UFC debut at UFC 158 in March, losing a unanimous decision to Patrick Cote. The fight’s result was controversial, with many scoring the fight for Voelker, who out-landed Cote 153-97 during the three-rounder.
The Aug. 28 event, which goes by the unwieldy title UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2, is headlined by a rematch between ranked welterweights Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann.
