Brady is on the verge of top five contention following a one sided win over Burns, but he’s willing to take a fight down the rankings if it means punching Ian Garry in the face.
Sean Brady is looking to “The Future” after a hard fought win over Gilbert Burns at UFC Vegas 97.
Brady blanked Burns on two of three judges’ scorecards for the main event, with a third judge handing him the win 49-46. That’s a pretty impressive performance considering Burns is ranked No. 6 at welterweight and is a former title contender.
So where does that leave No. 8 ranked Sean Brady? Knocking on the door of the top five. But if he can get a fight with Ian Machado Garry, he’ll take it.
“I just think Ian thinks he’s God’s gift to earth, and he’s not,” Brady said during a post-fight scrum. “I feel like everyone in this sport feel the same way. I’ll fight him.”
“I’d like to fight Ian – he’s an up and comer,” he added later. “I’m a little bit older than him, but I want to be here for a long time. He’s undefeated and he’s got some hype. Before, he said that he won’t fight guys ranked behind him, but I’ll be ranked ahead of him on Tuesday with that No. 6 spot.”
“So yeah, maybe I’ll let him fight me. We’ll see how that goes.”
If not Garry, then Brady likes the look of Colby Covington.
“I’ll fight Colby,” he said. “I think Colby is the easiest matchup in the division. I’ll piece him up on the feet. I’ll rag doll him.”
After a tough year and a bit that saw Brady deal with three fight cancellations and the first loss of his career to Belal Muhammad, the wrestling standout is looking back on track and ready to reclaim his status as a rising contender to watch.
