Brendan Schaub explains Nate Diaz backstage run-in: ‘I was embarrassed by the situation’

Brendan Schaub gives his side of the story of his run-in with Nate Diaz at the backstage area of the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

Another newsmaker after Saturday night’s boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor was the backstage run-in between former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub and Nate Diaz. As seen on video, Schaub was looking to have a conversation with Nate, when the younger Diaz brother suddenly began hurling back some inaudible expletives.

Diaz has yet to clear out what exactly happened, but according to Schaub, he was merely trying to “help out” in terms of marketing a third fight with McGregor. It was then when he was called out for his previous remarks during the build-up of the fight.

“I’m like ‘bro, Nate, how about that fight man? You’re next, biggest fight in UFC history, brother.’ And he starts laughing,” Schaub recalled during the recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. “He’s like ‘oh, hell no. How f—-ng stupid do you look now? How stupid do you look, talking all this sh-t?’”

“I went ‘Nate, I have no issues with you. You’re pointing your gun at the wrong guy, what are you doing right now? You should be selling this fight against Conor, not me. I’m not the guy.’ I said ‘I’m in skinny jeans and Gucci boots, for god’s sake.’

“I was just embarrassed by the situation,” Schaub said. “Because he kept doing this (raising his middle finger).”

Schaub adds that the situation might have been further aggravated after he called Diaz out for not speaking clearly.

“This is what triggered him. He was talking, and I literally couldn’t hear him because people were like ‘Schaub, let’s go’ because they didn’t want a fight. And he keeps talking, and I’m like ‘Nate, use your words. I can’t understand a word you’re saying. Use your words.’ And he probably has that lisp, or whatever, that probably set him off. But, I have no issues with Nate, there’s nothing there.”

McGregor himself did hint at a possible trilogy fight with Diaz, which he expects to be another massive event.
