Strikeforce heavyweight Brett ‘The Grimm’ Rogers (11-3) was released by the Strikeforce promotion following assault charges on Thursday in Dakota County, Minn.
According to MyFoxWinCities.com, Rogers was charged with “assault in the third degree, domestic assault by strangulation and pattern of stalking conduct…” as well as one charge of endangerment of a child. All following an alleged assault by the fighter on his wife on Wednesday night.
Rogers has stated that he had been drinking before the two got into an argument where he claims she struck him first.
Rogers spouse was “reportedly strangled, punched repeatedly in the head and face and lost a tooth in the struggle.” During the struggle she “blacked out from being choked, suffered a golf ball sized wound on her face among smaller wounds.”
‘The Grim’ made his first court appearance on Thursday, and is expected back in court on Friday. Bail was set at $100,000.
Shortly after today’s UFC 132 press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed the fighters release, noting Rogers was cut following the arrest.
Rogers had his last fight on June 18, losing to Josh Barnett in their opening World Grand Prix Heavyweight tournament quarterfinal bout. Rogers tapped out at 1:17 of the second round due to an arm-triangle choke at the Dallas, Texas event.
