Brock Lesnar talks UFC return: ‘This is all about me’

Former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar talks about his unique situation where he is able to fight in the UFC, despite of his active contract with the WWE.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will be making his grand comeback to the Octagon on July 9th at UFC 200 in Las Vegas against Mark Hunt.

It was a rare opportunity given to him by his current employer, the WWE. The catch, however, is that it would only be a one-time deal.

Lesnar’s resume while under the UFC banner was a stellar one, albeit short-lived. He was able to bag the heavyweight world title just after two fights, and it came against Randy Couture, one of the many legends and Hall-of-Famers of the sport.

With that said, Lesnar believes he no longer has anything to prove and that his current situation actually makes him a rare gem in today’s mixed martial arts scene.

“I don’t think I have anything to prove at all. I’ve been an athlete. I’ve accomplished a lot of great things,” Lesnar told Paul Heyman (transcription by MMA Fighting). “A lot of great things. I feel very fortunate that I’m 38 years old, I work for the WWE and I can step foot back into the Octagon again for the UFC.”

“How many people can do that? I’m one in a million,” he proudly said. “How many people can pull it off? One in a million. And you’re looking at him.”

Lesnar adds that his UFC return is mainly to appease his own desire to fight, and nothing else.

“If by chance, two million people want to tune in for me to enjoy myself on July 9, so be it. That’s great. That’d be really good and I appreciate that, but I’m not gonna change,” Lesnar said. “This is all about me. I’m sorry. This is all about me. And why should it be about anybody else?”
