It appears that Brock Lesnar is still under contract to the UFC and will still be a part of the USADA drug test program.
Brock Lesnar’s current tenure with the UFC isn’t over yet, at least contract-wise. And drug testing isn’t over for him yet either. According to USADA spokesperson Ryan Madden (via MMA Fighting), the WWE superstar will still be tested just like every other member of the roster:
“To my knowledge, Brock Lesnar has not notified USADA of his retirement from the UFC,” Madden said. “Therefore, he remains subject to USADA testing and the UFC anti-doping policy.”
Lesnar, who picked up a big win over Mark Hunt at UFC 200 after being out of the sport for almost five years, was the subject of some controversy when he decided to fight again. The former UFC heavyweight champion was granted an exemption to the four-month rule that usually governs returning fighters – they have to be tested for four months before they can compete.
Because Lesnar fought long before USADA was involved in the sport, and the UFC wanted him to fight at UFC 200, they gave him a pass. Hunt brought it up multiple times before the fight, and there was a lot written about it. Ultimately though, it didn’t end up being a big deal. Lesnar was tested six times before UFC 200, and while results haven’t been released, he was allowed to fight (unlike Jon Jones). So you can read into that as you will.
For now, Lesnar will return to WWE to take on Randy Orton at WWE SummerSlam next month. A return to the Octagon is still up in the air, though he did leave the door open for it at the UFC 200 post-fight press conference.
