‘The Immortal’ Matt Brown is set to make his 27th Octagon appearance.
According to MMA Fighting Matt Brown will get a chance to rebound from his recent loss to Carlos Condit when he takes on Dhiego Lima on June 19. The UFC show on that date has a ‘TBD’ for both headliner and venue.
Brown came to the UFC all the way back in 2007, through the 7th season of The Ultimate Fighter. After bowing out of that competition in the quarter-finals, with a submission loss to series winner Amir Sadollah, Brown made his pro UFC debut with a win on the finale over Matt Arroyo.
Over the following years Brown bounced back and forth between the win and loss columns before finding his stride in 2012.
In February of that year he TKO’d Chris Cope and to begin a seven-fight win streak that lasted until mid 2014. In that streak he beat Stephen Thompson, Mike Swick and Erick Silva. The streak was broken with a unanimous decision loss to future welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.
Since then Brown has gone 3-6 to take his overall record to 22-18. His last win was a KO against Ben Saunders at UFC 245 in 2019. Prior to losing to Condit, via decision, at January’s UFC on ABC card, Brown was TKO’d by Miguel Baeza.
Lima is also a TUF vet. He was a finalist on season 19 in 2013. He was released from the UFC in 2015 after a 1-3 run. He responded by winning the Titan FC welterweight title.
In 2017 he was a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption. He lost the final fight of that competition to Jesse Taylor, but has remained in the UFC ever since. Last time out, at UFC 258 last month, he lost to Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision. Before that he was on a three fight winning streak with wins over Chad Laprise, Court McGee and Luke Jumeau.
