The UFC is headed to Canada’s capital on May 4th.
For the first time since 2016, the UFC is going to have an event in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
On Wednesday, Aaron Broensteter of TSN reported multiple fights for the May 4th card, and while none of them is the main event, the most notable matchup is a middleweight bout between Derek Brunson and Elias Theodorou. The entire event will stream live on ESPN+ from the Canadian Tire Centre, home to the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.
Brunson (18-7) is on a two-fight losing streak, having been knocked out by Jacare Souza and Israel Adesanya in his two appearances in 2018. The heavy-handed Brunson hasn’t had his hand raised in victory since knocking out Lyoto Machida in October 2017.
Theodorou (16-2) is trending upward in terms of win-loss record, as he’s prevailed in his last three fights. Along the way, he’s beaten Dan Kelly, Trevor Smith, and most recently a split decision over Eryk Anders at UFC 231 in Toronto. His only two defeats have come against veterans Brad Tavares and Thiago Santos.
Here are the other fights lined up for UFC Ottawa:
Juan Adams vs. Arjan Singh Bhullar
Leah Letson vs. Sarah Moras
Merab Dvalishvili vs. Brad Katona
Marc-Andre Barriault vs. Andrew Sanchez
Mitch Gagnon vs. Brian Kelleher
Vince Morales vs. Aiemann Zahabi
And yes, UFC Ottawa will be the same night as Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs on DAZN, so it’ll be a busy evening for combat sports.
