Bryan Barberena is officially off next Saturday’s card due to an emergency laparotomy.
Bryan Barberena (15-7) is officially off the UFC Vegas 14 card next week. He was scheduled to fight Daniel Rodriguez (13-1) for what promised to be solid action fight.
As to what happened? Emergency surgery.

In particular, a laparotomy: a procedure used to open the abdomen in order to identify the cause of belly pain or possible bleeding.
Because a laparotomy requires the doctor to open the abdomen, Barberena will need time to adjust his diet, as food and drinks are normally advised against consuming since the person’s bowels need time to adjust. Interestingly enough, one of the recommendations for recovery is being active. Walking around is often useful in order to prevent blood clots.
Barberena has had a very respectable career thus far. Although he lost his second UFC bout, he gained notoriety for being Sage Northcutt’s first real step up in competition. Northcutt was dominated, and Barberena has never looked back, turning into a solid journeyman for the UFC.
At this time, there is no word on when Barberena is expected to be back. Recovery time for a laparotomy is typically six weeks. There is also no word on if or who might step into to fight Rodriguez on such short notice. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
