“God of War” wants his rematch.

Benoit Saint-Denis competes in his first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) main event at UFC Paris this weekend (Sat., Sept. 28, 2024) when he takes on fellow Top 15 ranked Lightweight Renato Moicano inside Accor Arena in Paris, France.

Saint-Denis is coming off a massive co-main event knockout loss against Dustin Poirier that occurred earlier this year at UFC 299 in Miami, FL, but he still hasn’t fully gotten over the loss. In fact, he is plotting his revenge on “The Diamond” but realizes the only way he gets the rematch he desires is to win the UFC Lightweight title from Islam Makhachev.

“I think the only way I’ll get a shot at [Poirier] again is to take the belt from Makhachev’s waist,” Saint-Denis told CBS Sports. “Then I’ll have some things that he hasn’t. Maybe we will do it back and forth. But it’s the only way I see having the honor and privilege to fight him again. So I have to work my ass off to get there.”

Defeating Makhachev is easier said than done. The Russian fighter is riding a 14-fight win streak and has defended the Lightweight championship three times, with two wins over Alexander Volkanovski (watch here) and a defeat of Poirier in his last outing.

While this storyline will be fascinating to sit back and watch, Saint-Denis must get through Moicano, who is on a three-fight winning streak.
