Continuing with his onslaught of callouts, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champ-champ, Henry Cejudo, recently challenged women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko to a fight inside the Octagon.
While it’s an obvious attempt on Cejudo’s part to up his cringe level, “Bullet” isn’t one to back down. During a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Valentina took the chance to warn “Triple C” about being careful for what he wishes for.
“Be careful what you wish because he is the all gold hunter, but I can make it happen that he will lose all of his gold forever,” said Valentina, while trying to figure out whether or not the artist formerly known as “The Messenger” was actually serious.
“I don’t know because he is very insistent in this. But I say, be careful what you wish. Never, I am not afraid of anything.”
Valentina admits she felt Cejudo was just joking and would eventually turn the callout into a congratulations for her win over Liz Carmouche at UFC Fight Night 156 in Montevideo, Uruguay (highlights).
But with Cejudo, it’s hard to tell when to take him serious, other than when he’s inside the cage, of course.
As for what could realistically be next for Shevchenko, a title defense against Katlyn Chookagian, who called out “Bullet” to a showdown in a rather unique way which included a dog and some dancing, seems to be in order.
Henry, meanwhile, will likely not fight for the remainder of this year, as he recently underwent shoulder surgery, sidelining him until early 2020.
