Bend it like … Marajo?
Tough night for Iuri Alcantara.
Not only did the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight veteran lose his Corey Sandhagen fight at UFC Lincoln last weekend on FOX Sports 1, he also left the Octagon with a busted beak.
One that required surgery because … well, the pic speaks for itself.
“This was one of the most amazing fights of my career,” Alcantara wrote on Facebook. “Unfortunately the final result was not so expected, but ok, I am an athlete and as such I will encounter the negative result. Now I need to focus on my recovery. I had fractures to my nose, and I’m going through surgery tomorrow morning. According to the doctors, running everything as expected, in a month I’ll be able to go back to practice, which makes me more peaceful.”
Alcantara (35-10, 1 NC) was hoping to build on his technical knockout win over Joe Soto at UFC Belem back in February; however, Sandhagen was able to drop the hammer in the second stanza and put “Marajo” down for the count.
The 38 year-old Brazilian remains unranked at 135 pounds but has been a fixture in the bantamweight division since crossing over from World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) roughly eight years back.
