Cynthia Calvillo will return to the octagon to fight Poliano Botelho at UFC Buenos Aires on November 17th.
UFC strawweight Cynthia Calvillo will return to the octagon after serving her nine-month suspension for testing positive for marijuana metabolites, as she faces Poliana Botelho at UFC Buenos Aires.
Combate first reported the matchup, though the UFC is yet to make an official announcement. Calvillo later announced the fight on her social media. Originally, Calvillo was facing just a six-month suspension, with the possibility of shortening that to three-months with the completion of a USADA-approved drug awareness and management program. However, the Nevada Athletic Commission extended her suspension to nine months.
Calvillo (6-1) almost had a flawless 2017 up until she was defeated by Carla Esparza at UFC 219. The 31-year-old won her first three UFC fights last year, impressively defeating Amanda Cooper and Pearl Gonzalez by submission, and winning a decision over Joanne Calderwood.
Botelho (7-1) made her UFC debut in October 2017 when she defeated Gonzalez by unanimous decision. A former flyweight champion for XFC, Botelho last fought at UFC Fight Night 129 in May when she finished Syuri Kondo in just 33 seconds.
UFC Fight Night 140 will take place in at the Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 17th. No main event has yet been announced for the card.
