According to ESPN, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in the process of booking a women’s Flyweight bout between Cynthia Calvillo and Katlyn Chookagian for the upcoming UFC 255 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Nov. 21, 2020.
Calvillo (No. 4) was set to compete a few weeks ago against Lauren Murphy at UFC 254 before she was forced out of the bout after testing positive for COVID-19. Calvillo is 3-0-1 in his last four fights, and 6-1-1 overall in her UFC career.
As for Chookagian (No. 4), she is coming off a tough knockout defeat at the hands of No. 1 ranked Flyweight, Jessica Andrade, which went down at UFC Fight Island 6 a few weeks ago (see it again here). Going just 2-2 in her last four, Chookagian scoring a win over Calvillo would be huge for her hopes of getting another crack at the title.
Speaking of which, the women’s 125-pound title will be on the line that night as division champion Valentina Shevchenko defend her strap against Jennifer Maia in the co-headlining act. That said, it’s easy to see why the promotion booked this fight to take place at the event, as having some insurance doesn’t hurt.
The event will be headlining by a men’s Flyweight championship title fight as division kingpin Deiveson Figueiredo takes on Alex Perez. In further Flyweight action, Brandon Moreno will face off against Brandon Royval, while Mauricio Rua rematches Paul Craig in Light Heavyweight action.
