Cage Warriors
The European promotion’s show will continue on Friday night in London and a UFC middleweight bout between John Phillips and Dusko Todorovic has been added.
Amid global chaos, Cage Warriors — like the UFC — believes the show must go on. In an unprecedented move, the European MMA promotion will now host at least one of the several cancelled UFC London fights on their card.
It was confirmed via a press release by the promotion on Monday morning that Friday night’s event will go ahead behind closed doors, with only fighters and staff in attendance due to uncertainty about future mass gatherings surrounding the coronavirus outbreak. Cage Warriors 113 takes place inside the Indigo at the O2 in London, England and the main card will be broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass.
More fights may continue to be added to the show because company president, Graham Boylan, is working with UFC management to salvage some of the fights lost from the UFC London card which was forced to relocate. Any of these contests will take place as UFC bouts but inside the Cage Warriors cage.
“We’re working non-stop, around the clock to make this event the most iconic in the history of European MMA,” said Boylan in the press release. “The way it’s looking, we could well be the only major sports promotion on the continent broadcasting live this weekend, into millions of homes around the world.”
“Since day one, we’ve aimed to provide the most respected platform in Europe for athletes to showcase their skills. Now we’re proud to do our bit to help some of the guys who lost their chance to fight on this week’s UFC card.”
The first bout to relocate from the UFC London event is a middleweight clash between former Cage Warriors competitor, John Phillips, and UFC debutant, Dusko Todorovic. There are expected to be more card updates over the following days.
Elsewhere on the show, three title fights feature, and European star Paddy Pimblett returns to action for the first time in eighteen months.
