Canelo Alvarez knows that while Floyd Mayweather might be coming out of retirement, he’s not getting a second crack at him.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is flying high these days. He’s got a huge DAZN contract, he’s one of the top P4P fighters in the world, and he just won a title in a fourth weight division when he knocked out Sergey Kovalev earlier this month. But one thing he doesn’t think he’ll be getting is the chance to avenge his only professional loss, which came to Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) obviously heard about Mayweather’s recent announcement that he will return to the ring in 2020, but he’s not getting his hopes up. In a quick ambush interview with TMZ, Canelo made it clear that Floyd isn’t fighting him – he thinks it will be someone from the world of MMA instead:

“He doesn’t want a fight with me.” …“He’s gonna take on an MMA fighter.”

He said that in English too, which is somewhat surprising. But it’s not surprising that Canelo knows this. Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) isn’t going to come out of retirement again and risk his undefeated record against a legitimate threat. He’s all about the money, and since he’s co-promoting with UFC president Dana White, Canelo is likely hitting the nail on the head with that statement.

As for his own opportunity to take a crossover boxing match with a UFC talent, Alvarez has already stated that he has no interest in that, saying not long ago that Jorge Masvidal wouldn’t be a challenge for him.
