Jack Hermansson and Jared Cannonier faced each other in a Middleweight clash today (Sat., Sept. 28, 2019) at UFC Fight Night 160 inside Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark, only on ESPN+. In another great showing, Cannonier denied the takedown and picked his foe apart.
Hermansson immediately opened the bout with aggression and low kicks, but he still did not delay long before ducking into a double leg takedown attempt. Cannonier defended successfully. Cannonier landed a good low kick, but it was countered by a takedown from Hermansson. Hermansson chain wrestled for a moment and briefly took the back, but Cannonier was able to escape back to his feet. The two traded jabs. Hermansson’s low kick began to connect at a good rate. Cannonier stuffed a single leg shot and landed a jab. Right hand to the body scored for Cannonier, followed by a calf kick. Another hard low kick scored as Hermansson pivoted. Hermansson shot, was stuffed, but landed a hard knee on the break. Cannonier stalked his foe, looking to land more low kicks. Hard jab landed for Cannonier just before the end of the first round.
Hermansson came out in the second with a renewed bit of aggression, but he ran into an early uppercut and fell to his back! Cannonier jumped into top position and landed long, [powerful shots, pretty quickly forcing the referee to intervene. It all happened suddenly, but Cannonier calmly dispatched his foe with scary ease.
Cannonier proved himself the real deal at 185 lbs. with his third consecutive victory. His takedown defense and scrambling were excellent, and on the feet, it was simply no contest. Cannonier hits frighteningly hard, and that’s a problem for just about everyone!
