The UFC’s debut show in Chile has two more fights added to the docket.
The UFC’s first non-Brazil event in South America is just over two months away, and the card is coming along nicely.
Officials announced on Tuesday that bantamweights Frankie Saenz and Hanry Briones, as well as light heavyweights Jared Cannonier and Dominick Reyes, will fight at UFC Fight Night 129 in Santiago, Chile on May 19th. The night’s main card airs live on Fox Sports 1.
Saenz (12-5) snapped a three-fight losing streak by winning a split decision over newcomer Merab Dvalishvili. It was his first triumph since edging out Sirwan Kakai in 2015. Looking to snap his own 0-3 stretch is Mexico’s Briones (16-7-1), who is coming off a submission loss to Rani Yahya last August. Briones has fought just once in each of the last three years.
Cannonier (10-3) is hoping to rebound after a rather disappointing performance and decision loss to Jan Blachowicz last December. The Alaskan went 1-2 in 2017, with a TKO of Nick Roehrick sandwiched in between the Blachowicz and Glover Texeira defeats. Reyes (8-0) appears to be a top prospect in the 205-pound division. Known for his viral head kick KO at Legacy Fighting Alliance 13, “The Devastator” wiped out Joachim Christensen in his Octagon debut, then submitted Jeremy Kimball at UFC 218.
No main event has been named for UFC Fight Night: Chile, although welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio is rumored to be one-half of the headliner.
