Cat Zingano returns against Amanda Nunes at UFC 178

Cat Zingano will make make her return to the Octagon, but it won’t be in a title fight.

Zigano, who was forced out of a bout with UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in 2013 with a knee injury, takes on Amanda Nunes at UFC 178 in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sept. 27, Yahoo! Sports reported Thursday.

Zigano, who enters the fight with a perfect 8-0 record, hasn’t fought since her UFC debut in April of 2013, when she finished Miesha Tate in the third round. The undefeated bantamweight was expected to fight Nunes at the Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy card in 2012, but the card was canceled.

Nunes (9-3), who was coming off submission a win over Raquel Pa’aluhi when she was matched against Zingano, hasn’t lost under the UFC banner, scoring a pair of TKO victories over Germaine de Randamie and Sheila Gaff.

UFC 178 will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson, and also features the return of former champion Dominick Cruz against Takeya Mizugaki. Tim Kennedy vs. Yoel Romero is also set for the pay-per-view card.
