A welterweight fight with Ireland’s Cathal Pendred facing Sean Spencer was announced for Ultimate Fight Night 59 in Boston.
Cathal Pendred becomes the latest Irish fighter on the Jan. 18 Fox Sports 1 show at the TD Garden in Boston (UFC Fight Night 59), as he’ll face Sean Spencer in a welterweight bout. The UFC made the news official late Wednesday.
Pendred (15-2-1) joins headliner Conor McGregor and Patrick Holohan at the event in the city he was born in. Although living and fighting out of Dublin, Ireland, Pendred was born and lived in Boston until the age of four, and considered it a dream to fight in the city.
The SBG Dublin member came from behind to beat Mike King on the July 19 show in Dublin in an emotional fight that got him a post-fight bonus in his UFC debut. He followed up with a split decision win of Russia’s Gasan Umalatov on the Oct. 4 show in Stockholm. Pendred is now unbeaten for nearly four years, a streak that covers ten fights.
Spencer (12-3) is coming off a decision win over Paulo Thiago on Sept. 13 in Brasilia, Brazil. The win upped his UFC mark to 3-2.
