“The fight I would really want, and this has everything to do with competition; if Frankie Edgar wins this fight against Max Holloway that’s the fight I am interested in.”
Henry Cejudo will be keeping a close eye on next month’s headlining featherweight title bout between Max Holloway and Frankie at UFC 240.
Reigning champ Holloway is the betting favorite heading into the contest but, should Edgar pull off the upset, Cejudo would be very interested in moving up in weight to challenge ‘The Answer’ for the featherweight title.
Speaking to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani in a recent interview Cejudo, who recently beat Marlon Moraes to become the UFC’s first ever simultaneous flyweight and bantamweight champion, said he sizes up very well with Edgar.
“The fight I would really want, and this has everything to do with competition; if Frankie Edgar wins this fight against Max Holloway that’s the fight I am interested in,” Cejudo said, per MMA Mania’s Adam Guillen Jr. “We had talked about it before, captain Eric mentioned it. I like his stature, I think the height seems very well, he is a wrestler. I think if he wins the fight against Max Holloway, then me and him can throw down.”
Cejudo, who has no animosity towards Edgar, believes a featherweight title bout would challenge his ‘mind, body and soul’ and elevate him to the next level.
“It’s nothing against Frankie, I just want to compete against the best. I know he took offense when I called him out with Marlon Moraes, I know he didn’t believe in me…but why not? Why can’t I win another belt. They have been telling me I can’t. They told me I was going to get knocked out by Marlon, they told me I’d get stopped by Demetrious Johnson, T.J. Dillashaw.”
“The sky is the limit, I want to challenge my mind, body and soul. If he wins this fight and he wants to do it, let’s make it happen.”
If Edgar does manage to shock the world against ‘Blessed’, there’s the very real possibility Cejudo could become a three-weight world champion.
UFC 240, which will see Holloway defend his featherweight title against Edgar in the main event, takes place next month, July 27 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada.
