A report surfaced on Wednesday suggesting that reigning flyweight champion, Henry Cejudo, injured his knee during practice, which then picked up steam when “The Messenger” did not perform in the promotion’s open workouts.
Cejudo claimed the report was erroneous and that his failure to participate on stage stemmed from a sponsor’s request that he not compete in certain activities. Then just a few minutes later, the Olympian did, in fact, reveal he hit the “edge of the corner” … whatever that means.
“I’m good, I’m strong, I’m healthy. I don’t know where that came from,” Cejudo said ahead of the UFC 238 main event in Chicago. “I did have a little bump on my knee, my right knee. I hit the edge of the damn corner. It hurt. That’s it.”
Cejudo promptly performed some low-impact calisthenics in front of the media to shut down any further questions about his knee, which will need to be 100 percent if he hopes to use his takedowns against bantamweight No. 1 contender, Marlon Moraes, this Sat. night (June 8, 2019) in “The Windy City.”
You know what they say about smoke and fire…
