Cejudo praises UFC for pulling McGregor: No one is bigger than the company

While many fighters have voiced their support for Conor McGregor in the wake of his removal from UFC 200, top flyweight contender Henry Cejudo thinks the Irishman should be taught a lesson in discipline.

Cejudo, who will challenge Demetrious Johnson for the flyweight championship at UFC 197 this weekend, told MMA Fighting that McGregor should be punished for thinking he’s bigger than the company.

“I think it’s good for the UFC,” Cejudo said Wednesday at the UFC 197 open workouts. “The UFC, they need to start stepping up and doing things like that. If you think you’re higher than UFC, if you think you’re better than all the other fighters, then maybe you should get pulled. So, I think it’s a good discipline.”

The Notorious abruptly retired on Tuesday and the UFC announced that he had been pulled from his welterweight rematch with Nate Diaz after refusing to attend a press conference. Since then, however, McGregor released a lengthy statement on Facebook stating that he hadn’t retired and was still making fight preparations for Diaz.

The featherweight champion said he was exhausted from the promotional world tours and requested that the UFC let him skip some of the media obligations as a one-off. The UFC, however, have reportedly rejected McGregor’s offer and pulled the mega-star from their blockbuster pay-per-view.
