The terrorist angle seems to be all the rage these days, for reasons not quite understood.
Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo, has been trying very hard to keep his name in the headlines after losing the ability to fight for more than a year, thanks to a shoulder injury that required surgery.
The means to that end has been a tireless (and tiresome) social media campaign to demonstrate his unique sense of humor, which may not be funny, but at least succeeds in getting “Triple C” the media attention he’s looking for.
His latest target? None other than UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
“So I’m sitting here watching the UFC fights with my boy Justin Gaethje,” Cejudo told TMZ Sports. “And I’m just dumbfounded a little bit, because we’re talking about Conor McGregor. Yeah, the man that likes to sucker-punch the elderly. Yeah, the man that does terrorist attacks in our country. And he thinks he can get the next title fight with Khabib.”
The UFC fights in question were taking place at UFC Auckland, where Dan Hooker captured a razor-thin decision over Paul Felder to advance in the 155-pound pecking order. The division is currently ruled by lightweight deity Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Cejudo, Gaethje, and Nurmagomedov all belong to Dominance MMA under Ali Abdelaziz.
“Khabib’s a man of honor and integrity,” Cejudo said. “Everything that you’re not, he is. But I got somebody that you could fight to eventually fight for that title that you want. If not, you can stick to the ‘BMF.’ So I have a message for you, or better yet we’ll let Justin Gaethje give the message for you.”
Gaethje is currently ranked No. 4 at 155 pounds, just one spot behind McGregor at No. 3. “The Highlight” has been campaigning for a “Notorious” showdown but UFC President, Dana White, does not share his enthusiasm when it comes to matchmaking.
“‘Triple C,’ the man is not going to fight me,” Gaethje said about McGregor. “What the fuck do you gotta do? He’s running out of easy fights. I’m sitting here smoking my CBD, waiting for a motherfucker to punch me in the face. Let’s go. Quit being a pussy.”
McGregor, who last competed at welterweight, is the frontrunner to face the winner of the UFC 249 pay-per-view (PPV) main event this April in Brooklyn, New York, where Nurmagomedov defends his lightweight title opposite longtime rival, Tony Ferguson.
