Donald Cerrone says that he suffered no serious injuries in his controversial loss to Tony Ferguson at UFC 238.
It looks like Donald Cerrone got off rather light following his controversial bout with Tony Ferguson at UFC 238. Cowboy’s eye got disgustingly swollen after blowing his nose in between rounds two and three, a few seconds taking a late shot from Ferguson that may or may not have caused an injury. It led to the flight being stopped and El Cucuy being awarded a TKO victory.
It seemed pretty obvious at the time that Cerrone had suffered some sort of facial or orbital injury based on how quickly his eye inflated, and UFC president Dana White confirmed an orbital injury following UFC 238. But in an Instagram post today, Cowboy says he somehow escaped major injury:
“I’m in Good Health. Thanks for all the message and concerns. Only air was in my eye. No broken bones nor cracked or broken orbital. Sitting and waiting for the Rematch or next fight.”
In the past couple of days, Cerrone has posted a poignant photo with his family, and a meme about his injury that’s pretty funny:
It’s up in the air whether the UFC will run it back with Cerrone and Ferguson or not at this point, but my guess would be that they don’t. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Cowboy back in the cage by the end of the summer either way.
