Middleweight champion Hector Lombard (27-2-1, 1NC) is set to headline an upcoming Cage Fighting Championship title on March 25 in Sydney, Australia by defending his CFC title against Canadian veteran Joe “El Dirte” Doerksen (46-14).
The bout was officially announced on the promotions website CFCWorld.com.au and is scheduled to take place at the Big Top Stadium in Sydney, tickets are already on sale for the event.
Lombard, who also holds the Bellator Fighting Championships middleweight title, is currently on 16 fight win streak, and has not been defeated in 21 straight bouts. He is also scheduled to meet Falaniko Vitale in May in a non-title match at Bellator 44.
Lombard successfully defended his Bellator title in his last bout, earning a unanimous decision over Season 2 middleweight tournament winner Alexander Shlemenko, at a Bellator 34 show in October of last year. This bout with Doerksen will be his seventh CFC title defense since winning the belt back in 2007 against Jean-François Lenogue in Sydney.
Doerksen was released from the UFC again after a two fight losing streak. “El Dirte” lost a split decision to Dan Miller at UFC 124 in Montreal last December and was submitted by C.B. Dollaway at UFC 119 in September. The losses ended a six fight win streak for the Canadian who has made many appearances with the UFC over his 60 fight professional career going 2-7.

On March 25 Cage Fighting Championship kicks off its 2011 season becoming the longest running professional mma event in Australia. Luna Park’s Big Top Stadium is the venue for the first event which will feature Australia’s number 1 ranked Middleweight Fighter Hector Lombard take on Canada’s Joe Doerksen.
Hector Lombard headlined the first Cage Fighting Championship show on 28 July 2007 against top Australian fighter Kyle Noke(UFC) resulting in a draw. Lombard later defeated French fighter Jean-François Lénogue to be the CFC Middleweight Champion. He has since defended his title six times and is the current middleweight champion of Bellator Fighting Championships will be taking Canadian Joe Doerksen; a former middleweight contender of the (UFC) who also fought PRIDE veteran Paulo Filho for the vacant WEC middleweight championship and a veteran of the International Fight League (IFL). He specializes in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, with the vast majority of his victories resulting from submission techniques. Doerksen is a multiple UFC veteran, his fight stats include a who’s who of MMA including Matt Lindland, C.B. Dollaway, Matt Hughes, Egan Inoue, David Loiseau, Chris Leben, Patrick Cote to name a few.
The main undercard event will feature a trans Tasman battle, a number one contender fight between Manny Rodrigues (Aus) Vs ‘Hot’ Rod McSwain (NZ). A split draw resulted last time these two men fought, this time the winner will have a chance at the welterweight title currently held by Jesse Juarez (USA).
A full undercard will support this event and feature top up and coming Aussie fighters.
