A pair of Team Alpha Male stablemates may soon have their dates to dance.
According to a report from Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, Chad Mendes is hoping to challenge Jose Aldo for the UFC featherweight title on an as-of-yet unannounced pay-per-view on August 2, 2014, although nothing is finalized as of this writing.
In addition, according to Urijah Faber’s manager Mike Roberts, if the right opponent can be found, “The California Kid” is expected to make his return to the cage on July 5, 2014 at UFC 175 in Las Vegas, NV.
Mendes (16-1) has put together a flawless 5-0 run since losing to Aldo via first-round knockout in early 2012, including a pair of back-to-back wins over top-10 ranked opposition, Clay Guida and Nik Lentz.
It’s a feat Faber (30-7) mirrored in 2013, when the former WEC champ racked up four consecutive victories over well-regarded competition to earn a rematch against UFC bantamweight titleholder Renan Barao.
However, Faber ultimately fell short in his second shot at Barao, losing via controversial first-round TKO on one month’s notice at UFC 169 to drop his record in Zuffa title fights to 0-6 since November 2008.
