The long-awaited return of Chan Sung Jung will continue to stretch on, as the one-time featherweight contender has been forced out of his fight with Akira Corassani due to an injury.
The website MMA-In-Asia first reported that “The Korean Zombie” was out of his Oct. 4 fight due to a strain in his shoulder, the same shoulder that he dislocated against Jose Aldo back at UFC 163 in Aug. 2013. MMA Fighting later confirmed through his manager Brian Rhee that Jung would be out of the fight.
“Yes, unfortunately, [Jung] strained the shoulder that he dislocated in the Aldo fight,” Rhee said. “No structural damage, he just has to do rehab for four weeks, then the doctors will reevaluate.”
The Jung-Corassani bout was scheduled for UFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm, Sweden. No replacement for Corassani was immediately announced.
For the popular 27-year old Jung, it’s been a full year since he last competed. Always an exciting fighter, three of the four fights Jung has had in the UFC have resulted in an end of the night bonus. His fights with Leonard Garcia mark his most memorable work. At WEC 48 in 2010, Jung and Garcia put on the Fight of the Year, and when they met in a rematch the following year Jung finished Garcia with a rarely utilized twister submission.
