Michael Chandler is staying ready for December.
That might seem foolish considering UFC CEO Dana White just told the combat sports media that former two-division champion, Conor McGregor, is not expected to return until some point in 2025.
Unless that was just “misinformation” to keep UFC fans at bay while the promotion secretly assembles the bout.
“December is that big pay-per-view card, cap off the year with a huge pay-per-view, Chandler vs. McGregor, makes a lot of sense,” Chandler told TMZ Sports. “Dana, as much as we love him, he has also said some things that were just absolutely false in press conferences and what not, which, that’s his job. His job is to sometimes give you the exact information.”
McGregor recently told his Twitter followers he would be ready by December.
“His job is also sometimes to give you misinformation,” Chandler continued. “So sometimes, saying that the fight isn’t happening this year might mean that this fight is happening this year. You can read between the lines, but as far as I know, this fight’s got some very huge prospects to fight by the end of the year. Conor’s ready, I’m ready, let’s sign on the dotted line.”
Let’s first check the status of that fight-canceling pinky toe.
McGregor, 36, has been out of action for more than three years and stands at just 1-3 since winning the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez back in late 2016. As for Chandler, 38, he rolled the dice on a “Notorious” payday and came up snake eyes, losing two years of his career to a fight that may never happen.
See you in December? Maybe, maybe not…
