Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is training with the intention of fighting Luke Rockhold again.
With the glut of recent middleweight fight bookings and a costly USADA suspension, it certainly looks like former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is going to get a shot at regaining his title. And according to a UFC Tonight report, he is training with that in mind.
Weidman, who was defeated for the title by Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 last month, hasn’t been told explicitly that he’s getting the title shot yet by the UFC. But according to the report, he is training with that bout in mind and believes it will be what he gets.
He also stated that unlike a lot of fighters, he’s willing to take a bout at UFC 199. Most fighters are angling to fight on UFC 200, which is expected to be one the promotion’s biggest events ever.
With Yoel Romero suspended and Ronaldo Souza booked against Vitor Belfort, the next three contenders aren’t going to face Rockhold. So it’s probably pretty logical to think the rematch will happen. Rockhold himself has teased the bout as well in recent weeks too.
Are fans interested in this rematch? Early indications seem divided, but I guess that’s what we’re going to get.
