Paddy Pimblett fell off the wagon … and landed in some ice cream.
The No. 15-ranked lightweight contender is already too “chubby” to make the middleweight mark and is fast approaching the light heavyweight limit, tipping the scale at nearly 200 pounds just a few weeks after his King Green victory at UFC 304 in Manchester.
Just don’t compare him to any Family Guy characters.
“That’s why everyone does call me Chris Griffin, right to my face,” Pimblett said on his YouTube channel. “Know what did my head in the other day? Someone calling me a weight bully. ‘He should move up in weight. He’s a weight bully.’ Are you mad? Imagine me fighting f*cking Leon Edwards, and [Kamaru] Usman, and that. They’re f*cking massive. Only got 19 kilos to make weight.”
Pimblett, 29, previously admitted to battling a “genuine eating disorder” between fight camps, leading MMA fans to worry “The Baddy” may “die young.” Those concerns led to this recent promise from the streaking scouser — which appears to be in jeopardy.
“Probably start getting called fat f*ck by everyone,” Pimblett said. “Didn’t do too bad. Didn’t do great, though, at the same time. Still a bit chubby. I’’m not as fat as I have been but I’m still a bit chubby. We were eating all sorts. I just need to train, that’s the main thing. Obviously, eating copious amounts of food doesn’t help with your weight, but when I don’t train, I put weight on.”
Despite struggles with his weight, Pimblett has remained undefeated under the UFC banner, racking up a perfect 6-0 record with four finishes since making his Octagon debut in late 2021, catching the attention of division champion Islam Makhachev.
Maybe they can meet at welterweight.
“Did you see where Islam was talking about me the other day?” Pimblett asked. “He said ‘He’s an exciting fighter’ and that. ‘If he keeps winning, you never know, he could fight for the belt,’ and that. You know Islam, we’re coming. We’re coming brother, we’re coming!”
Pimblett’s return date has yet to be determined.
