Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight up-and-comer Mickey Gall just got the vacation he didn’t ask for, thanks to yet another delay from his opponent, CM Punk, who is now going to get back surgery and postpone his Octagon debut.
“My back has always bugged me,” Punk told MMAFighting.com. “It got bad enough to the point where I couldn’t do anything the week before I went to train with the New Jersey Devils last month. One day I could manage, the next day I couldn’t. I’ve been in agony for almost a month. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy … nothing worked.”
There’s a lot of that going around these days.
Gall, who wiped the floor with Mike Jackson just last week, was expected to face Punk this spring after being hand-picked by UFC President Dana White. That bout now looks to be pushed back until later this year, depending on how well the former pro wrestler recovers from surgery.
These comments are really starting to resonate.
Probably because Punk was signed to UFC way back in November 2014 and despite not having a date for his debut, was given the red carpet treatment from his mixed martial arts (MMA) employer. As expected, that didn’t sit well with some veteran fighters (like this one).
Nevertheless, Punk insists this latest setback is just a “bump in the road.”
