Welterweight prospect Erick Silva returns to the Octagon to face Dong Hyun Kim on Oct. 9 at UFC Fight Night 29.
Silva’s coach at X-Gym team in Rio de Janeiro, Josuel Distak, confirmed to MMAFighting.com that Silva will look to avenge his teammate Paulo Thiago’s loss to Kim in October. Combate.com first reported the match-up as a possibility.
According to sources close to the UFC, a city or a venue aren’t set yet for the event, which is expected to take place in Brazil.
“Erick Silva will fight again in October, against that guy that defeated Paulo Thiago,” Distak told MMAFighting.com on Wednesday. “It’s a tough fight, (Kim) will try to do what (Jon) Fitch did to Erick, but Erick is way better now. He had weight issues before that fight, but he no longer has that problem.”
Silva is coming of a 71-second submission victory, tapping Jason High with a reverse triangle armbar at UFC on Fuel TV 10, while “Stun Gun” looks to extend his winning streak following victories over Siyar Bahadurzada and Paulo Thiago.
“We are going for the knockout,” Josuel added. “Erick needs to avoid the takedowns and keep the fight standing. If he goes to the ground, we are trained too.”
