Coach: Video of Khabib eating tiramisu was ‘an illusion’

AKA coach Javier Mendez is once again backing up his student Khabib Nurmagomedov, saying he never ate that damn tiramisu.

Where ever Khabib Nurmagomedov goes, so too do taunts of ‘tiramisu!’ That was the tasty dessert ordered to his table on a UFC Embedded episode leading up to his botched weight cut at UFC 209, and many still believe the Dagestani fighter was enjoying it before being rushed to the hospital the morning of weigh-ins.

Now that Khabib is finally returning to fight at UFC 219 on December 30th, so is the legend of tiramisu. But AKA coach Javier Mendez wants to get this out of the way now: Khabib did not eat that damn tiramisu!

“Listen, this is the thing. When Khabib goes anywhere, he’s with his whole group, there’s six or seven of these guys, they’re all fighters,” Mendez told Express.co.uk. “Now you tell me, you’ve got six or seven guys that are all fighters but only one of you has a fight, and six do not. Do you think they’re all going to be on a diet? Or do you think one of the guys is going to have something like what they had?”

“Just because someone was eating tiramisu and there happened to be a picture where it was shown, it doesn’t mean that Khabib was eating it. It means he was there and it was there. Just because an illusion shows something, it doesn’t mean it’s true. That’s bulls**t. He wasn’t eating it. He’s very disciplined. He’s a very disciplined person, he doesn’t do things he’s not supposed to.”

It’s a bit of a hard claim to swallow (unlike tiramisu, which is creamy and easily enjoyed). Khabib was the one ordering tiramisu for everyone on the Countdown show, saying stuff like “Before we eat, we eat tiramisu,” and the Countdown show cutting between shots of Khabib eating and a plate of tiramisu. And afterwards Khabib claims he’s never even eaten tiramisu in his life? It makes it a bit hard to believe any tiramisu based tales from him or his camp.

Fortunately for Khabib, all he has to do is make weight for UFC 219 without any problems and we can forget this tiramisu thing ever happened. Just kidding, we’ll tease him about it forever, because just like Khabib, we like to have our cake and eat it too.
