Floyd Mayweather vs. Anderson Silva, anyone?
Anderson Silva’s boxing coach Luiz Dorea would like to see ‘The Spider’ take on Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the boxing ring following back-to-back wins over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Tito Ortiz.
Dorea, who coached Silva for the Chavez and Ortiz bouts, made his case for why he believes Mayweather vs. Silva ‘would break all pay-per-view records’.
“We have the ‘new normal’, with the YouTuber brothers, with millions of followers, testing themselves and promoting themselves a lot,” Dorea told AG Fight in a recent interview. “It’s a big deal. The brothers talked about him and Anderson is prepared for anyone. But I think the one fight that should happen was between Floyd Mayweather and Anderson Silva. One of the greatest boxing athletes against one of the greatest MMA in the world. Floyd faced Logan Paul, who doesn’t have that much experience in boxing, in an exhibition match. I think I could have a deal. These fights against YouTubers can happen too, because Anderson wants something that motivates him. We will have good news soon,” Dorea said.
“It’s my wish and his (this fight). We have great respect for Floyd Mayweather and he is one of the greatest boxing athletes in history. He tested himself against a YouTuber heavier than him, so why not Anderson Silva? It would break all pay-per-view records. We would like to do. It has everything to do.”
Mayweather (50-0) last fought in June against YouTube star Logan Paul in an eight-round exhibition in which no winner was declared.
46-year-old Silva, on the other hand, was thought to be on the decline but the Brazilian has looked phenomenal since he was released from the UFC and transitioned to boxing. The former UFC middleweight champion cruised to a decision victory over Chavez and made Ortiz look like an amateur, faceplanting ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ at 1:22 of the first round.
Could Mayweather-Silva be next? Possibly, but Silva is more likely to face Logan Paul as the two were previously in talks prior to Silva’s Sept. 11 KO victory over Ortiz.
