Time for those “big fights.”
Rory MacDonald told the mixed martial arts (MMA) media that his Bellator MMA contract had expired following his unanimous decision loss to welterweight rival Douglas Lima last weekend in Uncasville, Connecticut, leading to speculation “Red King” may be on the move.
Not so fast.
”Rory’s contract has not expired, and we have remaining rights,” Bellator MMA President Scott Coker told MMA Fighting. “I think he’s a great fighter. I think he’s probably the No. 2 welterweight in our roster, so yeah, we would love to. But we’ll see.”
MacDonald turned 30 back in July.
The loss to Lima left them even at one apiece, as “Red King” was able to capture a decision win over “The Phenom” in early 2018. MacDonald (21-6-1) is 3-2-1 for Bellator MMA since crossing over from UFC back in 2017.
If and when a Lima trilogy does take place, it’s unlikely to happen before early-to-mid 2020.
