Combate Americas “Tito vs. Alberto” takes place TONIGHT (Sat., Dec. 7, 2019) at Payne Arena in McAllen, Texas. In the 210-pound Catchweight main event, “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz (20-12-1) fights former AAA and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Heavyweight champion Jose Alberto Rodríguez (9-5), better known in lucha libre as Alberto El Patron.

TITO VS. ALBERTO PLAY-BY-PLAY:
Tito Ortiz vs. Alberto El Patron
El Patron is out first in the red trunks and red gloves for the main event, sporting a career record of 9-5 in MMA for this fight. Ortiz comes in 20-12-1 with the blue gloves and flame trunks, accompanies by his twin sons and waving a flag that’s Mexican on one side and American on the other, although he uses Hulk Hogan’s “Real American” for his final walk. This fight takes place at 210 lbs. Ortiz fights out of Huntington Beach, California. Jose Alberto Rodriguez fights out of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The referee in charge is Jason Herzog.
Round 1: No touch of gloves after the opening bell. They go to the ground right away and Ortiz is on top in side control. Ortiz goes knee on belly, El Patron escapes and gets back to his feet, Ortiz blasts him with rights and gets another takedown at 1:32 right to side control. Ortiz is on top sitting on El Patron’s side and takes the back as he turtles up. Left hands continue to find a home. Right hands as El Patron struggles to get back up. Ortiz takes the back mount looking for the rear naked choke and El Patron taps out at 3:10.
Final result: Tito Ortiz via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:10 of round one.
Melissa Martinez vs. Desiree Yanez
“Super Mely” Melissa Martinez is 6-0 and “Dirty” Desiree Yanez is 5-1. Martinez fights out of Mexico City, Mexico and Yanez fights out of Waco, Texas. The winner is the first women’s Strawweight champion of Combate Americas. Yanez sports the red trunks and top with blue gloves. Martinez has the black top and trunks with red gloves. The ref is Jacob Montalvo.
Round 1: Yanez comes forward swinging and puts Martinez on the fence. She’s quickly turned around. Martinez keeps the pressure on and turns her back looking for a leg trip or an ankle pick. Martinez keeps her balance through all of the attempts. Martinez widens her stance as Yanez digs deep and the takedown finally connects at 2:10. Yanez traps one leg between hers for a moment but Martinez gets back up at 2:38. Yanez goes for another single leg and Martinez tries to make her pay for it with hands and elbows. They finally break apart at 3:26. Martinez blasts Yanez with a left hook. Yanez tries to keep her at range with kicks. Yanez eats a kick to the face and a left followed by a leg kick. Yanez keeps backpedaling and eating strikes until the bell. I can see these judges splitting their scorecards but Martinez 10-9 since Yanez couldn’t do anything with her takedown.
Round 2: Yanez charges forward again to open round two. Martinez continues to attack with the heavy overhand left. She’s got it cocked and ready to fire at all times. Yanez clinches up and rushes Martinez into the cage, dragging her down to one knee for a moment. Yanez has another takedown for a split second at 1:30. She gets a body lock takedown at 1:42 and works her way to side control. Martinez almost clears her way back to her feet but Yanez recovers to side and blasts away with rights until she transitions to the full mount. Big shots on top. Martinez tries to turn to avoid the strikes but gets pinned back down. The right hands are hard and heavy. One minute left. Right hands and elbows. Yanez holds the wrist to block the left arm and jackhammers away with rights, and Martinez gives up her back with short time left. 10-9 Yanez but borderline to a 10-8.
Round 3: Martinez comes out wearing a shirt in round three due to a wardrobe malfunction in round two. She’s trying to punch her way back into the fight and Yanez is backing up avoiding the power left. She catches a kick and pushes Martinez backward across the cage. Martinez gets taken down again at 1:24. Martinez gets back up. Martinez tries to elbow Yanez in the head to block the takedown. Martinez wants to sneak in a guillotine but Yanez is trying to block it. Martinez gets Yanez to the ground and she’s going for it with all her might. She’s on top unloading with elbows but lets go of the guillotine with 90 seconds left. Yanez gets back up. Martinez paintbrushes Yanez with a kick and Yanez goes for takedowns relentlessly. Martinez traps the head for a guillotine with 30 seconds left. She blasts Yanez with punches as she lets go of her gasping opponent right at the bell. 10-9 Yanez. This is most likely going to be a split decision with the judges.
Final result: The judges score it 29-27 Yanez, 29-28 Martinez, 29-28 Martinez.
Dani Barez vs. Joao Camilo
Camilo is out first in the yellow trunks and blue gloves. He’s 27 years old and 6-3 overall. Black trunks and red gloves for Barez, who has a pro record of 11-4. Camilo fights out of Goiania, Brazil. Barez fights out of Spain. The ref is Don Turnage.
Round 1: Barez rushes forward to throw a kick. He’s chopping away at the left leg of Camilo quickly. Camilo shoots in response and gets a takedown. Barez responds by trying to lock up a kimura. Camilo avoids it and moves to full guard. Barez tries to trap the head for a moment, lets go, tries again and he’s going for a guillotine. Camilo pops free at 2:14. Camilo isn’t doing much on top other than throwing pitter pat shots. Barez tries to throw up his legs for a triangle but gets blocked. Barez slap boxes Camilo around the ears. Camilo has probably been on top long enough to win 10-9 but Barez was the more impressive fighter in round one.
Round 2: Tap of gloves to start R2. Camilo opens with a leg kick of his own. Camilo takes a finger to the eye 17 seconds in and the ref calls time. Camilo wings a right after the restart. Barez stuffs a takedown and is on top at 38 seconds. He’s looking to pull the right leg through to pass to side control or full mount. Camilo is trying to hang on and not let him move. Turnage calls for them to improve position at 1:51. Camilo gets Barez back to full guard. Turnage stands them up at 2:24. Camilo throws a kick that’s caught. Barez lands an uppercut and goes for a d’arce on the ground. Barez just can’t seem to finish it. Camilo survives. 1:00 left. Barez has side control. Barez wins this one 10-9.
Round 3: Double tap of gloves and a hug to start round three. Barez may have hurt Camilo with a left hand. He signals him to get back up and then tags him with a vicious combo. He’s going head and body and Camilo drops at 52 seconds. Barez forces a stand up by backing away. Camilo throws a weak leg kick. Barez plasters him with a right. Camilo looks wobbly. He misses badly on a takedown. Barez peels the head away from his body on the ground to blast some elbows to Camilo. If he got back up he could probably finish Camilo standing. For Camilo it’s all defense now with two minutes and change left. Barez spins from one side to the other and he’s momentarily got the head trapped. He lets it go for some ground and pound with 75 seconds left. Barez gets warned to watch the back of the head. Elbows and rights. Barez goes for the head and arm choke, Camilo bucks him off, but Barez jumps on the back looking for a rear naked choke. Camilo survives to the bell but that’s a 10-8 for Barez.
Final result: Daniel Barez wins a split decision of 28-29, 30-27 and 29-28.
Levy Marroquin vs. Enrique Gonzalez
Enrique Gonzalez is out first in the white trunks and blue gloves. He’s a purple belt in jiu-jitsu. Levy Marroquin sports the black trunks and red gloves and is a winner of a Combate Americas tournament which he was originally only an injury alternate for. Gonzalez is 7-3 and Marroquin is 12-3. This fight is at a catchweight of 149 lbs. Gonzalez fights out of Wood Dale, Illinois. Marroquin fights out of Monterrey, Mexico. The referee is Don Turnage.
Round 1: Gonzalez rushes forward right at the bell and puts Marroquin on the fence. Takedown connects at 32 seconds. Gonzalez is on top in half guard and briefly considers a guillotine, which gives Marroquin a chance to get back to full guard. Gonzalez tries to pass and nearly gives up a limb. He spins around and gets through but Marroquin puts a leg behind his neck and almost works his way to a triangle. He tries to link his toes in the cage and gets it slapped away by Don Turnage. Gonzalez spins back into full guard with half of R1 left. Marroquin catches him in a guillotine and sweeps to the top in full mount as Gonzalez escapes. Don Turnage warns the fighters not to do any eye pokes. Marroquin stands back up to try and drop hammers and ends up in full guard. He still gets a few bombs off. He backs up with 45 seconds left and tries to jump over the top. Marroquin goes for a guillotine as Gonzalez stands back up and gets the tap.
Final result: Levy Marroquin via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:53 in round one.
