Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be making its return to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi to kick off its 2021 fight campaign, starting with the “Holloway vs. Kattar” event on Jan. 16, the year’s first mixed martial arts (MMA) card following a much-needed holiday break.
Just a few days later, UFC returns to ESPN+ for “Edwards vs. Chimaev,” the welterweight headliner originally scheduled for UFC Vegas 17 but delayed after a run-in with COVID-19. Finishing off the “Triple Header Fight Week” is UFC 257.
And what better way to christen the new year than with the pay-per-view return of Conor McGregor on Jan. 23. “Notorious” will rematch fellow lightweight contender Dustin Poirier more than six years after scratching “The Diamond” at UFC 178.
While no official announcement has been made, it stands to reason the promotion will stick around “Fight Island” for the “Gastelum vs. Heinisch” event on Jan. 30, as well as the “Overeem vs. Volkov” card on Feb. 6, before returning to Las Vegas for UFC 258.
