Bellator 222: “Machida vs. Sonnen” takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., on Fri., June 14, 2019. The last Bellator MMA show in this historic venue was Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva, so if it feels eerily similar to have “American Gangster” (31-16-1) fighting “The Dragon” Lyoto Machida (25-8) fighting in the main event, you’re not entirely wrong.
In addition to the Light Heavyweight match-up between two of the most recognizable names in the division, the card will also feature Neiman Gracie (9-0) against the winner of Rory MacDonald vs. Jon Fitch from Bellator 220 on April 27, 2019, which will determine a finalist in Bellator’s Welterweight Grand Prix.
The insufferable infamous Dillon Danis (1-0) will also fac his latest hand-picked opponent in Max Humphrey (3-2) at 175 pounds, while boxer-turned mixed martial arts (MMA) Flyweight Heather Hardy (2-1) will battle an opponent to be determined at a later date.
