Conor McGregor reminisces over his 2016 rematch with Nate Diaz and hints at a UFC return.
Although Conor McGregor is retired, ‘The Notorious’ is still listed in the official UFC rankings — so perhaps the UFC knows something that we don’t.
McGregor announced his retirement earlier this year but, on the four-year anniversary of his 2016 rematch with Nate Diaz, which saw McGregor beat Diaz via majority decision in the UFC 202 main event, the Irishman hinted at a UFC comeback.
“4 years ago today!” McGregor posted on Instagram on Thursday. “Backstage waiting to go out for one of the biggest bouts of my fighting life! McGregor/Diaz II. Wow!Maybe there is more…”
McGregor hasn’t fought since his first-round TKO victory over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246, but the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion has been active on social media and drumming up interest in a potential rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov, who submitted McGregor at UFC 229 back in 2018.
Khabib has also expressed in a rematch with McGregor, but the undefeated Dagestani is occupied with Justin Gaethje, who he meets later this year in the UFC 254 main event on Oct. 24 at a TBD location.
