Conor McGregor unimpressed with flat-footed Canelo or out-of-shape GGG

Combat sports fans are buzzing as we inch closer to what is widely-considered the best boxing pay-per-view (PPV) of the year, set to go down inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I’m talking, of course, about unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin’s highly-anticipated showdown against former champion Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 16 in “Sin City,” not that spectacle between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor on Aug. 26.

While GGG and Canelo are two of the best pugilists on the planet, McGregor — who has zero professional fights in the “sweet science” — is largely unimpressed, because one fighter is flat footed and the other is out of shape.

“I’m not really too much of a fan of either of those,” McGregor said. “I think Canelo’s a little but stuck, a little bit flat on his feet. When I watch footage of him I just see him getting peppered — he has no feet under him.”

The feeling is mutual.

“Golovkin I think came into camp, for this preparation, badly out of shape. I’m looking at him badly out of shape up in Big Bear and I just see a drained individual,” he said. “So, although they’re supposedly up there as well, I don’t really think they are.”

If GGG is not “up there” then I don’t know who is.

McGregor will have a chance to put his money where his mouth is in less than two weeks and at the same time, corroborate one of two stories: One report has “Notorious” getting knocked out in sparring while another has him dropping a former world champion.

So, a win over Mayweather gets us McGregor vs. the winner of Canelo-GGG?

Anything is possible.
