Earlier today (Tues., April 12, 2016), it was reported that Portuguese Welterweight prospect Joao Carvalho died on Monday night after last weekend’s technical knockout (TKO) loss to Charlie Ward at the Total Extreme Fighting (TEF) Championship event inside the National Boxing Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.

Now, according to a press release from International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), John Kavanagh — head coach to Conor McGregor and head honcho of the The Irish Amateur Pankration Association — has started a Go Fund Me page to raise money to help Carvalho’s family with funeral expenses.

According to the initial report, Carvalho was alert and able to walk under his on his own accord following the loss. It wasn’t until later that his condition worsened. As a result, he underwent brain surgery and remained in critical condition until his untimely passing. Carvalho was just 28 years old.
