What’s the worst thing a fighter can do before stepping into the Octagon?

Get lost in his (or her) own head.

That’s according to former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who knows a thing or two about throwing down with Derrick Lewis. “DC” imparted some words of wisdom for “Black Beast” in Episode 5 of UFC 265 “Embedded.”

“Have fun out there, just don’t let these dudes leave you by yourself,” Cormier said about Team Lewis. “Every time I felt pressure I just made sure someone was always with me. When you’re by yourself is when your thoughts get the best of you. Just don’t be alone, keep these dudes around you until you go to sleep. Make them entertain you.”

Anyone who’s seen this video knows Lewis is in charge of the entertaining.

“The Black Beast” goes head-to-head with fellow heavyweight bruiser Ciryl Gane in the UFC 265 pay-per-view (PPV) main event this Sat. night (Aug. 7, 2021) inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, with the winner taking home the interim 265-pound strap.
