Jon Jones has been stuck in USADA limbo for over a year now, but many think his recent uptick in interviews points to a return sooner rather than later. In his latest comments to the public, Jones said he wanted to follow Conor McGregor’s lead and challenge himself to bigger fights. But then he went on to say he wanted to beat Daniel Cormier again. Not once, but twice.
”I want to break the idea of him thinking he can beat me,” Jones told RT. “I believe doing that at light heavyweight would be the smartest thing to do, for a third time. Leading into our fourth fight, a possible fourth fight for the heavyweight championship of the world, his confidence won’t be in the right spot. It won’t, and I think it will help me take that fourth victory over him and that heavyweight championship from him. I think I have his number.”
You can read the full statement here, and it’s worth it because Jones goes into more details including a comparison of size, talent, and cuteness. Yes. Cuteness.
So of course Daniel Cormier got wind of this, and now here’s his response:
Big goals for a guy that could only achieve them after he finishes getting disciplined for his 3rd drug failure! I mean jeez this guy #Cheater https://t.co/Kfuki7qRCM

And Jones responding!
Does my big goal somehow offend you? Why the need for name calling

I set you up with several attacks to your body, you begin to protect your belly so I kicked you in your head. but you’re right somehow a steroid metabolite right before the fight made me smarter. You’re the champ champ, I’ll stop dreaming now

That’s just the latest salvo in what we have rated as one of the most entertaining Twitter beefs in the history of mixed martial arts. Beyond Cormier’s sass is the clear implication that if Jones wants those wins, he better come back soon. Unless something changes, “DC” has been pretty steadfast about retiring at 40, which happens on March 20th, 2019.
Given his schedule already has Brock Lesnar penciled in for early 2019, we don’t think Jones is going to get his opportunity to fight Cormier twice more.
