Paulo Costa has trashed Israel Adesanya for accepting a fight with Yoel Romero.
UFC middleweight Paulo Costa thinks Israel Adesanya has made a bad decision taking a fight with Yoel Romero instead of waiting for ‘Borrachina’ to return from injury.
A bicep injury that Costa suffered back in October is predicted to sideline the Brazilian for eight months. However, that hasn’t stopped him from posting videos to his social media looking back in full fitness. Costa criticized Adesanya when talking to MMA Fighting for taking the fight with Romero.
“Poor guy,” Costa said “Adesanya understands nothing about business, pay-per-view sales, about money. He understands nothing. He has no idea that a fight with me would be bigger than any other, especially against Romero.”
Costa extended his unbeaten MMA record to 13-0 in his last fight with a split decision win over Romero at UFC 241. Meanwhile, the also undefeated Adesanya won the UFC middleweight title with second round KO of Robert Whittaker at UFC 243.
“He might win, but he might lose,” Costa said of Adesanya’s fight with Romero. “And if he loses, he’s back to being a nobody again. No longer undefeated, no longer the champion, and he misses the opportunity of making millions in a fight against me. Simple.”
Adesanya will aim to make the first defense of his title against Romero in the main event of UFC 248 on March 7th.
